Already have some packrafting experience and ready to up your game? Our Level 2 is a 2-day elevate your Packrafting skill Course and it is just what you need!

  • Refine your techniques and gain confidence in various scenarios.
  • Learn to interpret river conditions for safe and efficient navigation.:
  • Solidify your base skills and get ready for more challenging water.

  • You have done a few day and overnight trips

  • You can self-rescue 4 out of 5 times

If you have answered no to more than 3 questions  we suggest you start with our Level 1 Course

The important things to know

Expedition Cost per person: Nz$600 / per participant

Most of our Courses run from Nov to March. Our Level 2 course is on request only (minimum participant numbers apply )

  • Min age in general is 15 ( we have taken younger ones but please talk to us first )
  • The course is based on confidence and skill progression. We can and will, tailor the experience to your abilities.
  • We can supply you with a paddle-specific fitness plan Accommodation in our Camp can be booked separately.
    • You need to bring the following for the nights you are staying with us
      • Sleeping Bags and gear for staying with us
      • Anything else you need to stay in our Tent Village
      • We provide all the essential equipment for the Course
    • Everything you need for the paddling
      • Boats, Paddle, Pfd, Dry or Wetsuits, Helmets etc
      • Although it is best to bring your own kit
  • Private clothing
  • Lunches, Dinner & Snacks
  • Fitness plays a big role in being capable and safe on rivers and lakes although your fitness does not really matter to joining our course it will help you greatly with what we are putting you through
  • Upper body and core strength and endurance is what you should put your focus on
  • Use this as an opportunity to put some hard yards in and come prepared ( you can thank us later )

For those who have some packrafting experience and have paddled a few different rivers, this course is designed to elevate your skills and solidify your foundation.

Tailored Learning Experience for Enhanced Packrafting Skills

What you will learn is entirely up to you! Our course begins with an assessment of your current skill level, allowing us to suggest areas of focus. Here’s what you can generally expect:

  • Paddle Stroke Efficiency: Improve your technical paddling strokes for maximum efficiency and power, keeping you balanced in the boat.
  • Advanced Boat Control: Dive into more advanced boat control techniques, crucial for maintaining stability and handling various water conditions.
  • Different Approaches: Learn different approaches to navigating rapids, including how to approach rapids squarely and paddle strongly to maintain control.

When preparing for your packrafting course in Te Anau, here’s what you need to know:

  • Accommodation: You can stay with us or arrange your own accommodation for the weekend in Te Anau.
  • Food: Bring snacks for two active days on and in the water.
  • Clothing: Pack warm layers, pants, tops, and thick socks. Polypro is recommended for wearing under a wetsuit or dry suit.
  • Fitness: Reasonable fitness, particularly upper body strength, will make the experience easier. A good technique in freestyle swimming is also helpful.
  • Attitude: Bring a great sense of adventure and humor!
  • Equipment: If you have your own packrafting gear, it’s best to use it to get practice with your own kit. If not, don’t worry—we provide a full kit you can hire for free.
  • Stay with us and book your accommodation in our Packrafting NZ Eco Village – basic, glamping-styled tenting, shared facilities, and epic views. Available for the night(s) of your course dates. You can choose the option to stay with us when booking. 
  • Our Eco Tent site has very basic cooking facilities with USB charging stations for your mobile phone. Usually, you share a 4-meter bell tent with someone else

  • There is also a composting toilet and a basic shower available.

  • Everything here works on solar power and is as environmentally friendly as we can.

Optional Accommodation

Our eco-friendly, sustainable custom-built Tent Village – glamping-styled tenting, shared facilities, and epic views can be booked optional to stay with us over the course week. Which will make things a bit easier.

Booking process

  1. Booking Form and Departure Date: Fill out the Booking form form and select your preferred start date. ( remember it is a  2 day course )
  2. Let us check things: We will get back to you with either a confirmation or a few other dates in case we are not available on those dates
  3. Payments: Full payment or a deposit is required to secure your place ( please read the Terms & Conditions/refund policy ). We will hold your dates once confirmed for 5 days if not paid we give them away.
  4. Own Gear: It is highly recommended you have and bring your own kit. In case you don’t we got you covered.
  5. Stay in Touch: Keep us informed of your progress and any challenges you encounter—we’re here to help!
  6. Final Payment: Pay the remaining fee 30 days before your course starts
